About

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I am an amateur photographer based near Harrogate in Yorkshire. My primary interest is traditional landscape photography, but in recent years I have found myself increasingly drawn to more abstract work, particularly the incredible variety of colours, shapes and textures that abound in the natural world. A recent trip to Venice has also inspired me to explore more of the manmade world.

I was born in Middlesbrough and have always lived in Yorkshire, currently near Harrogate. I bought my first camera (a Pentax ME Super), in my late teens but didn't take a serious interest in photography until 2009 when I was fortunate enough to be able to take an extended break from work. By this time digital cameras were becoming mainstream and having dropped a few hints with my colleagues, I received as a leaving present, a copy of Charlie Waite's 'The Making of Landscape Photographs'. From that point on I was hooked. Over the following few years I attended several workshops, both in the UK and abroad. In 2014 I was thrilled to have my image 'Winskill Tree' highly commended and included in Landscape Photographer of the Year competition book and published as one of 9 images from the same book selected by the editor for inclusion in the Sunday Times Magazine preview of the competition. More recently (2022), seven of my abstract rock studies were published in volume 8 of the internationally respected Frames Magazine. Shortly after I was asked to feature as Frame's 6th Artist in Residence and commissioned to produce a series of short articles and video clips about my photography.
